About the customer

UNIQA pojišťovna, a.s. is an insurance company that provides its clients with a wide portfolio of insurance services. It has been on the Czech market since 1993 and has been one of the 10 largest insurance companies ever since. It is also a subsidiary of the Austrian insurance group called UNIQA Insurance Group.

Our task

Inventories of property were performed via paper forms. It was not a very environmentally-friendly solution, moreover it took a lot of time and the process was uncomfortable for the employees responsible.

The customer’s aim was to transfer this activity into an electronic form, including the possibility to export the list of property items to a convenient table.

Our task was to develop and deploy a barcode scanning system using a bluetooth reader and a native camera.

Challenges

The technical solution presented no problem for us.

We did perhaps struggle a little with the fact that the property is located in more than 100 offices. So we had to come up with a solution that would work for property management across the whole republic.

Throughout the course of development, we also bore in mind that the result should make life easier for the employees of the client who are responsible for property inventory. This has affected the application design and its link to the client administration system.

Our work

The outcome application has two main parts; for the employee and for the administrator. In the employee part, employees have an inventory list available and their job is to scan the relevant barcodes. The application then marks the inventory to the back office system. The administrator part contains more options, such as property scanning outside of inventory itself.

Each item, meaning property, has its owner, address and room assigned. You can also search for property items in the app depending on these criteria. You can add a note to each property either by selecting from the list of default notes or by typing your own text.

Another option offered by the app is property transfer management. Of course, all changes are recorded in the administration of the client.

Result

Our UNIQA Inventura application digitizes and simplifies the inventory process. Before deployment, the inventory process was performed offline via paper forms. Now it is being handled using barcode readers. The new solution consists of back end and administration and an Android mobile device. It is linked through web services to back end administration as well as client administration.

The output simplifies, accelerates and makes inventories convenient. Thanks to the application, asset inventory time decreased from three months to just one.

The solution we have developed is suitable not only for property inventory but also for other material items, such as goods. It is relatively easy to adapt the application to the specific needs of the client.
